England Fight Back After Pakistan’s Early Dominance at Lord’s

England fought back after a difficult start against Pakistan on the opening day of the second Test at Lord’s, reaching 248 for nine before bad light brought play to an early close on Thursday.

Pakistan made the most of helpful overcast conditions after choosing to bowl first. England’s top order struggled badly and slipped to 80 for four, with Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Abbas causing major problems. Abbas eventually finished the day with four wickets.

England’s recovery was led by Jordan Cox and Jamie Smith. Cox scored a determined 55, while Smith played aggressively for 61, helping England recover from their early collapse. Their partnership gave the hosts much-needed stability.

Pakistan continued to pick up wickets late in the innings, but England’s lower order managed to push the total towards 250. Jofra Archer also added some valuable runs, including the first six of the innings.

The match is particularly important for Pakistan, who are looking to bounce back after suffering an innings-and-103-run defeat to England in the first Test at Headingley. England currently lead the three-match series 1–0.

With England having only one wicket remaining, Pakistan will look to finish the innings quickly and then build a strong first-innings total of their own.
