Court sets Sept 29 deadline for Salman Shah murder probe report

A Dhaka court has set September 29 as the deadline for submitting the investigation report in the murder case filed over the death of popular film star Salman Shah.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana fixed the date on Sunday after the investigation officer failed to submit the report as scheduled.

Salman Shah’s maternal uncle Mohammad Alamgir, popularly known as Alamgir Kumkum, filed the case on October 21, 2025, against 11 people, including Salman’s wife Samira Haque, with Ramna Police Station under Sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code.

The other accused include Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Haque Lusi, Don, David, Zaved, Faruk, Ruby, A Sattar, Saju and Rijvi Ahmed Farhad.

Earlier, on October 20, 2025, the Dhaka 6th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge ordered the Ramna police officer-in-charge to treat the case concerning Salman Shah’s death as a murder case and submit a report. The court also revoked the earlier unnatural death case.

Salman Shah, whose real name was Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar Emon, died on September 6, 1996. His family initially filed an unnatural death case following his death.

According to the case statement, Salman’s parents and younger brother went to his New Eskaton residence that day and were told that he was sleeping. Later, they were informed that something had happened to him and rushed back to the house.

The family found Salman unconscious in his bedroom and took him first to Holy Family Hospital and then to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The family later raised allegations of murder. In July 1997, Salman’s father filed a petition seeking to have the case registered under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Salman’s maternal uncle is now pursuing the case on behalf of the family following the death of his father.
