Zero tolerance for drugs, illegal activities: DMP commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has directed police officials to adopt a “zero tolerance” policy towards drug-related crimes and take effective measures to prevent illegal activities at hotels and spa centres.

He issued the directives at the monthly crime review meeting for July 2026, held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh today.

The DMP commissioner instructed officials to conduct regular operations against drug dealers and their associates while strengthening intelligence activities to curb drug-related offences.

He also directed police officials to ensure that no illegal activities take place at hotels and spa centres under their respective jurisdictions. He called for immediate legal action upon receiving information about any illegal activity and instructed officials to maintain regular monitoring of such establishments.

To prevent snatching, the commissioner ordered the Criminal Division, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and Detective Branch (DB) to maintain a 24-hour field presence in identified snatching-prone areas.

He also called for stronger intelligence surveillance, regular patrols and targeted operations in crime-prone areas, with coordinated efforts to bring offenders to justice.

The DMP chief further instructed the officer-in-charge (OC) of the concerned police station and senior officials of the Criminal Division to visit the scene of every reported incident.

He stressed the need for proper on-site inspection, collection of evidence and a thorough assessment of the circumstances surrounding each incident to ensure effective investigations and uncover the facts.

The commissioner urged field-level police officials to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism, dedication and a strong sense of duty to control crime and ensure the safety and security of city residents.

Additional Police Commissioners, Joint Police Commissioners, Deputy Police Commissioners, Additional Deputy Police Commissioners, Assistant Police Commissioners, OCs of all DMP police stations and officials from different ranks attended the meeting.
