Erling Haaland has started the new Premier League season with a dramatic change to his appearance, swapping his trademark long blonde hair for a military-style buzzcut.

The Manchester City striker revealed his new look on social media with the caption, “New season, new trim.”

Before getting the haircut, Haaland joked about his previous hairstyles and shared some humorous ideas for his new look. He appeared nervous as the hairdresser made the first cut, but soon began smiling as the transformation took shape.

Haaland later showed off his new appearance during video calls with Manchester City team-mate Jack Grealish, Oasis singer Noel Gallagher and former City manager Pep Guardiola.

Gallagher praised the change, telling Haaland he looked around 17 years old and adding that change was good. Grealish also reacted positively, saying he loved the new style and joking that Haaland looked about 10 years old.

Guardiola was equally enthusiastic, telling his former player that he was lucky to have hair and that he loved the new look.

Haaland also contacted Zlatan Ibrahimovic before cutting his hair. Recalling Ibrahimovic's previous advice, Haaland joked that the former Sweden international had told him never to cut his hair because his strength was in it.

“I want a buzz cut, like in the military,” Haaland said.

Ibrahimovic, however, was far from impressed when he saw the result.

“What did you do? You lost a bet or what? Block me and erase my number,” Ibrahimovic told him.

Haaland will now hope his new look is accompanied by more goals as he looks to open his scoring account when Manchester City face Bournemouth at 14:00 BST on Sunday.
