A major fire broke out at Noor Hotel International, a six-storey residential hotel near Shariatpur Government Girls’ High School on Sadar Road, leaving at least five people injured.
The fire started around 1:30am on Friday. According to initial reports, the blaze originated from a private car parked on the ground-floor parking area. The vehicle’s gas cylinder later exploded with a loud bang, causing the fire to spread rapidly throughout the building.
At the time of the incident, 17 people were staying inside the hotel. Unable to exit through the lower floors because of the intense fire, they took shelter on the rooftop.
After receiving the alert, two units from the Fire Service and Police quickly reached the scene. Firefighters brought the blaze under control after around 20 minutes of efforts and safely rescued all 17 people from the rooftop.
The injured were taken to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital for treatment. Twelve motorcycles and the private car parked in the ground-floor parking area were completely destroyed in the fire.
