Train services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route resumed after being suspended for nearly seven and a half hours following the derailment of five coaches of a passenger commuter train in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh.
Mymensingh Railway Station Superintendent Abdullah Al Harun confirmed the development at around 5:00pm on Friday.
He said two relief trains dispatched from Dhaka and Mymensingh completed the rescue operation at the site, allowing rail services to resume around 5:00pm.
A four-member investigation committee has been formed to determine the cause of the accident, he added.
Earlier, Mymensingh Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Akhtar Hossain said the Jamalpur Commuter train, travelling from Jamalpur to Dhaka, derailed at around 9:30am just before entering Gafargaon Railway Station. The derailment of the power car and four other front coaches disrupted train services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route.
He also confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident.
