One person was killed and at least 10 others were injured after a bus plunged into a roadside canal on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj's Shibaloy upazila this morning.

The accident occurred around 8:00am near the Barangail bus stand area after the driver reportedly lost control of the bus following a tyre burst.

The deceased was identified as Delwar Hossain, 50.

According to Harun Or Rashid, officer-in-charge of Barangail Highway Police Station, the Dhaka-bound "Selfie Paribahan" bus was travelling from Paturia when one of its front tyres burst, causing the driver to lose control.

The bus then veered off the road and fell into a roadside canal.

Around 10 to 12 passengers were injured in the accident. Delwar Hossain died after being taken to a nearby hospital, the OC said.

Police said efforts were under way to recover the bus from the canal. Legal proceedings in connection with the incident were also under way.
