Israeli airstrikes in Gaza kill two, including four-year-old boy

Two Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip on Sunday killed at least two people, including a four-year-old boy, and injured seven others, according to Palestinian health officials.

One strike hit a building in Zawayda in central Gaza after the Israeli military warned the property’s occupants to leave, residents said. Medics said debris and shrapnel scattered across the surrounding area, injuring at least six people, including four-year-old Mohammad Abdel-Salam Taha, who later died at a hospital.

The second strike took place in the nearby Nuseirat refugee camp, according to health officials. Israel’s military said it was investigating both incidents.

The strikes came despite an October 2025 US-backed ceasefire that halted major fighting in Gaza but did not stop Israeli military strikes. Israel says its attacks target Hamas and other militant groups.

The Israeli military said on Saturday that it had killed senior Hamas militant Sharif Al-Hasnat in Deir Al-Balah, accusing him of helping restore the group’s underground infrastructure.

Hamas has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire and obstructing efforts to implement a broader US-backed plan to end the conflict.

According to Gazan health officials, more than 1,280 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire began, while the Israeli military says four Israeli soldiers have died.

Meanwhile, violence also continued in the occupied West Bank. Israeli authorities said an Israeli man was stabbed and wounded near Jericho by a suspected Palestinian attacker, who fled the scene.

Palestinian health officials also reported that Israeli forces shot and killed a 14-year-old boy, Islam Ajjouri, during a raid in Askar refugee camp near Nablus. The Israeli military said it was investigating the incident.
