Dengue Cases Surge: 672 Hospitalized, 2 Reported Deaths

Two people died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 672 new patients were admitted to hospitals, marking the highest number of daily dengue hospitalisations recorded this year.

The figures were released today (August 9) in a press statement by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Both deaths were reported in areas under Dhaka South City Corporation during the 24-hour period.

Of the newly hospitalised patients, 84 were admitted in Barishal division, 88 in Chattogram division, 66 in Dhaka division, 91 in Dhaka South City Corporation and 110 in Dhaka North City Corporation areas.

Another 140 patients were admitted in Khulna division, 27 in Mymensingh, 57 in Rajshahi, five in Rangpur and four in Sylhet, according to the DGHS statement.

With the latest deaths, the number of dengue-related fatalities in the country this year has reached 61.

Meanwhile, 480 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries this year to 17,813.

The country has recorded a total of 19,345 dengue cases so far this year.
