The Batman Part II: Batmobile Roars Through Snowy Gotham as Filming Begins

Vengeance is back on the streets of Gotham and this time, the city is covered in snow.

Filming for Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated sequel, The Batman: Part II, is now underway, with Glasgow once again being transformed into Gotham City. Recent set footage has given fans their first major look at the Batmobile in action, showing Robert Pattinson’s iconic vehicle speeding and drifting through snow-covered streets.

The snowy setting is not entirely unexpected. In May, director Matt Reeves teased the sequel by sharing images of the Batmobile driving through wintry conditions with the caption “#SnowTires.” The images strongly suggested that winter would play an important role in the film’s visual identity.

Now, the latest production footage appears to confirm that idea. The Batmobile has been filmed performing sharp turns and donuts on Glasgow streets, with artificial snow helping create the appearance of a frozen Gotham. The sequence offers a glimpse of the kind of high-intensity driving action that could be featured in the sequel.

The vehicle itself also appears to have seen better days. Set photos have shown a battle-damaged version of the Batmobile, with visible dents and damage, alongside another version of the car. While the exact context remains unknown, the damaged vehicle has naturally fueled speculation that Batman will be involved in some major action sequences.

Glasgow has been extensively redesigned for the production. Buildings and streets have been given Gotham-style signage, police vehicles and other props, while parts of the city have been decorated with snow and Christmas elements. One local building has even been transformed into Gotham City’s fictional Office of the City Clerk.

The winter atmosphere could give The Batman Part II a distinctive visual identity. The first film presented Gotham as a dark, rain-soaked and constantly gloomy city. A snowy version of that world could make the sequel feel even colder and more isolated, while also creating opportunities for striking action scenes.

However, fans should be careful about drawing conclusions about the story from the snow alone. Online speculation has already connected the winter setting to characters such as Mr. Freeze, but there has been no official confirmation that the classic Batman villain will appear in the movie. The snow could simply be part of Reeves' visual approach to Gotham.

Robert Pattinson is returning as Bruce Wayne/Batman, alongside Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. The sequel also features new cast members including Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry, Charles Dance and Sebastian Koch, although several of their roles have not been officially revealed.

The sequel has taken a long road to production. The Batman was released in 2022, and Reeves has spent years developing the follow-up. The film has also faced multiple delays, with Warner Bros. now targeting February 18, 2028, for its theatrical release.

For now, the Batmobile racing through a frozen Gotham is one of the clearest signs that Reeves is building on the atmosphere of the first film while taking the world in a new direction.
